Plot summary
Glengarry Glen Ross tells the story of four salesmen trying to make money, sell properties, and keep their jobs. Their supervisor, Williamson, tells them about a contest being put on by Mitch and Murray, the bosses. Whoever sells the most property wins a Cadillac, but whoever sells the least gets fired. Roma is at the top of the board while Moss, Aaronow and Levene are at the bottom. Levene goes to Williamson trying to persuade him to give him some premium leads but fails. He forced to try and sell property to "deadbeats" and old leads. Moss, instead of trying to win the competition, attempts to manipulate Aaronow to rob the office so they can sell the leads to another salesman, Jerry Graff. Simultaneously, Roma is selling a property to a potential buyer, James Lingk. He goes through his routine and gets Lingk to sign the contract in the end.
The following morning, Roma comes into the office and finds it has been robbed. He asks Williamson if Lingk's contract was stolen as it will win him the contest. Williamson tells him he had filed it last night and not to worry. Levene comes in excitedly as he closed a deal and believes it marks the end of his cold streak. Moss exits an interrogation room cussing the detective, Baylen. Levene is telling his success story but Moss ignores him leading to a conflict between Roma and Moss. Moss leaves the office just as Lingk enters. Roma knows Lingk wants to cancel the deal so he tries to leave with Levene assisting him. Lingk asks if the check has been cashed and Williamson overhears the conversation telling him it has. Lingk runs out of the building while Roma and Levene scold Williamson for his ignorance. However, Levene slips up revealing that he had robbed the office. He tries to keep Williamson from ratting him out but instead, Williamson tells Levene his check is worthless as his buyers are nuts and he does not like Levene. Roma comes out of interrogation and unknowingly asks Levene to be partners with him. Levene evades the question as he is escorted into the interrogation room. The play ends with Aaronow saying he hates his job and Roma going to the restaurant.
